About the Role

Locum Cardiac Surgery PA Inpatient/Hospital-Based

A hospital-based cardiac surgery service is seeking an experienced PA to provide immediate inpatient, operative, and call coverage. The role includes OR first-assist responsibilities, rounding on ICU and floor patients, and performing advanced cardiac surgical procedures including endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH). Coverage is needed as soon as possible, and only fully licensed New Jersey providers can be considered due to urgent need.

Practice Setting & Schedule

• Setting: Inpatient / Hospital-based

• Dates of Coverage: ASAP

• EMR: Cerner

• Trauma Level: None

• State License: Must already hold a NJ license (no exceptions)

Schedule Details:

• Weekdays: Monday Friday, 8 10 hours/day in-house

• Night Call: 6:00 PM 6:00 AM

• Weekend Call: Friday 6:00 PM Monday 6:00 AM

  • Rounding required Saturday & Sunday from 7:00 AM 12:00 PM

Clinical Volume

• Surgeries: Assist on 2 cases/day

• Rounding: 5 12 patients/day (ICU + floor), plus consults

Required Procedures

• Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)

• Retrieval of vascular tissue for bypass conduit

• Endoscopic retrieval

• Chest tube insertion

• OR first assist in cardiac surgery

Key Duties

• ICU and floor rounding

• Assist in surgery and participate in operative cases

• Diagnose and treat cardiac surgery patients

• Order and interpret diagnostic tests

• Write prescriptions

• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams

• Perform suture removal

Submission Requirements

• NCCPA certification Required

• New Jersey or compact license Required

• CSR Required

• 2 3+ years of cardiac surgery experience Required

• Fully proficient in EVH Required

• Available to start immediately Required

• Experience with Cerner Preferred

• Candidate must actively function in the OR and perform EVH Required at name clear

Additional Information

• Estimated credentialing timeframe: 60 days

• Mileage/tolls reimbursed; lodging may be approved for the right candidate

• Additional certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PA-C
